The design inspiration for KNOCK’s new building looks to the past and lingering light industrial character of Glenwood Avenue North. The new building’s tough and durable metal, concrete and glass exterior reflects the immediate context of a transforming industrial corridor. The expedient and economical vertical corrugated metal siding found on many of the local light industrial buildings is reconsidered in a more ‘tailored’ folded or ‘pleated’ zinc siding. Cast-inplace concrete is not concealed or covered but exposed and in some areas cast in a decorative pattern. The expansive areas of floor-to-ceiling glazing suggest the new creative office occupancy departing from the introverted and enclosed industrial and manufacturing facades of the recent past.
