Castle Danger Brewery

Nominated by Castle Danger Brewery

Castle Danger Brewery was a very small family-owned and operated brewery north of Two Harbors with 3-barrel system and an annual capacity of 300 barrels of beer, but they wanted to build an expanded brewery within Two Harbors. The vacant property, located along Lake Superior, was identified as a beautiful potential location. This vacant lot was purchased in 2013 with immediate plans to begin construction in time to be open for the 2014 tourist season. Missing a season also presented a risk of losing market position due to a competitive and rapidly growing industry. The brewery owners made decisions that many people are not willing to make. The project was completed without grant money and without early MPCA involvement. This unique financing and decision-making allowed the project’s tight deadlines to be met, which in turn immediately jump-started the impact the project is having on the City of Two Harbors.
